at tokyopop

it is sort of like a hospital or a supermarket.  when you go off hours, in the middle of the night? it's not busy and happening, but it is efficient and everything is arranged.  like in a supermarket.

it's NOT a supermarket though. in a supermarket if it was packed with people, there would be theft and breakage. tokyopop SHOULD always be happening -- but go there and there are -- it's like a sex hotel but only jerkoffs go there.  it's weird.

perverts are sick. there would be no human life without sex.  but perverts are sick and it's never about sex, it's about...control or power or getting off on someone else's bad feelings, it's wrong.

on the other hand, i am pretty sure tokyopop is run by a few actual JAPANESE people. (please let it be so. please...) TAN was pretty much greedy american "scum" i am pretty sure who wanted to maximize profit and do as little work as possible.

japanese people are self deferential almost to the point of martyrdom.

they believe in their buddhist way that suffering builds character.  a japanese person will stand up to a bully by not hitting them back and crying all over them or even smiling.  because...they have a way of understanding. (also not ALL the time or EVERY time!)

i come from a time and a place where pregnant dog was a term of respect love admiration and equality. it was before the gangsta pose where pregnant dog meant dude in jail who the skinheads are banging and who does chores and smiles like, well, someone who takes it in the pooper rather than getting materially slaughtered every day.

and since i can see similar patterns at tokyopop -- not the same, but not completely different -- i am in a quandry. because i would WAY rather help tokyopop - -and for that matter the people at Funimation who are american but they try so hard to be accomodating -- which is not typically american, typical american is arrogant and grandstanding and -- well, anyway flowers even grow in texas, believe it or not --


i would rather HELP tokyopop without it seeming like i am just another netcapitalist who is trying to profit.

so what can i do?

i know the walls are echoing and no one here is reading anything, just as sure as i know that it was a calculated mistake to go to sutekisquares and try to get insight and advice. calculating nurds who don't have too many feelings...

so what to do?  i have to pay it forward, but it takes time to figure out how.  there are some really smart and creative people who still don't understand their logjam.

there are some japanese people who are baffled by american corporate mentality and capitalism.  japan, like america despite higher test scores and generally japanese citizens are happier with japan than american citizens are happy with america - but they are obviously baffled about some stuff.
